Gated Barbed Wire Flogger by Ruff Doggie Styles

Suede and leather falls extend from the Gated Barbed Wire Flogger's leather-wrapped handle. Its mere sight is enough to instill fear in those who know what its strike will feel like. In the short time that I've owned this beauty, I have become completely enamored with it. It's not the sort of thing that I would use constantly, I will admit that. But it's so beautiful that it is worthy of being put on a pedestal like my other favorites. It's actually made me even a bit more into using floggers than I had previously been.

So here it is, Ruff Doggy Styles' beautiful, barbed wire flogger!

Isn't it just beautiful?
Let's go with the basics first, and then I'll tell you just how good this thing is. The flogger has a gorgeous, leather-wrapped handle that bears a checkerboard design. The interior of the handle is wood, I believe, which  will give you a strong grip on it, as the flogger is so-so in the weight department (not too heavy, but certainly not as light as other floggers that I own). On each end of the handle is a little piece of braided leather-enclosed wood, which is there both for style and aesthetic appeal. The handle also has a lovely, two-toned braided wrist strap that can also be used to hang it up, either on a hook, behind a door, or inside of a closet.

So now it's time for the measurements and all of that boring stuff. The holdable length of the handle is 1" wide and 5½" long, and each of those little pieces on its end are 1½" long, and 1½" wide. The loop comes off of the handle with about 4", so it's not the largest loop and it may not fit all wrists. For those that it doesn't, it is better used as just a hanger. The tails are all cut very evenly, and they reach a length of about 30", give or take an inch. That's a substantial length for any flogger, and though some might call it 'long,' do not be intimidated by its length. It's not the shortest flogger, I will agree, but it's also not too long that it becomes unwieldy.

There are two types of tails on this flogger: the suede and the "barbed wire." The barbed wire is actually thin leather strings that are braided together after being conditioned to become very firm. Every so often, there is a little wrap-around of leather and a few little pieces coming off of the braided tail. These are what give the "barbed wire" effect, and the pain and agony. The suede, on the other hand, is just regular suede; if you were to remove the barbed wire tails, the suede would be completely harmless and would make this a softer flogger. The barbed wire tails are black, whereas the suede are a pinkish red color (they are not a vibrant, deep red, but they are not completely "pink" either).

The flogger has a total of forty-eight tailstwelve barbed wire tails, and thirty six regular suede tails. That's a pretty damn good amount that is bound to pack a whole lot of punch. All of the suede tails are cut straight across, not on a bias or to a point, making them relatively soft and smooth. They are each about 3/8" in diameter, which makes them fairly thin and good for use. The suede is so high quality and so smooth and soft that I highly recommend, before using this beauty, rubbing it against your cheek or against your partner's bottom. It just feels so luxurious. The barbed wire tails are extremely beautiful, and hard as rocks. Each of the ends are covered by one of the wrapped-around pieces of leather to make them extra firm and to make sure to "cap" them so that they do not fall apart or unravel.

On the left is a picture of the barbed wire tail, and on the right, I showed the interior of the handle. It is finished with leather so that you do not feel any of the wood pieces at all, just the high-quality leather.

Alright, so after all is said and done, let's discuss how it works and who should use it. This is not a flogger that is meant for playing around, first-timers, or people who are not extreme masochists/sadistsit's meant for people who have quite a lot of experience under their belt and/or enjoy giving/receiving a lot of pain. And I do not just mean "a lot." I mean a LOT. This thing is so hardcore that when used anything other than lightly scratches the skin. No, it doesn't just bruiseit scratches, meaning that it can leave cuts and scrapes, depending on how it's thrown (i.e., swung). So if your partner doesn't like pain, and you don't like pain, and your thing is more rope-tying and bondage, then definitely do not get this flogger.

Personally, if you're not familiar with my style, I am an extreme sadist.
Extreme sadist. So this sort of flogger is right up my alley, and is really pleasing to own. It's like the epitome of the best sadist's flogger, it really is. I mean, it is a bit lighter in the pain area than a paddle or riding crop might be, but comparatively to other floggers...it doesn't get much better than this, it really doesn't. It will bruise if you give very light, repeated strokes, and may leave little stippling marks on the area that's hit. But aside from that, if you take this thing and give a lot of strength between your swing...your victim is certainly in for a surprise. It will scratch, hurt, make them scream in agony. And the best part? This flogger leaves marks for days. Not just for an hour, and not just bruises that will fade. The scrapes and scratches will need to heal, which is a very good part of owning it. Sort of reminds the receiver of all that happened, no?

To wrap this thing up, I'll part with my picture of me holding it and a few nice words. Ruff Doggie Styles' Gated Barbed Wire Flogger is absolutely gorgeous, well-made, and great for extreme sadists and masochists. It's not made for people who are new to flogging or pain, and it's not for people who do not enjoy pain. If you really know what you like, and know that extreme pain is your thing, or you're even trying to push your limits a bit, this flogger's a great one to pursue and test out. I'm very glad that I own it, and I don't doubt that a person who buys it, knowingly understanding its capabilities, will be pleased, too. It's simply that good.  So have I enjoyed it, and will I be using it as much as possible? Yes, and yes. Like I said, it's not the sort of thing that I'd reach for often, and it's not an everyday flogger, but it is one that will last forever and will get a hell of a lot of use.

I received this flogger, free of charge, from Edenfantasys. I highly recommend looking there for other floggers or impact play implements if this one is not to your taste.
